To develop and improve the education curriculum in line with global demands in the communication era, the Master of Communication Studies Program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), University of Riau held a Curriculum Book Preparation Assistance Workshop at the Novotel Hotel Pekanbaru, Thursday (5/9/2024).
This agenda presents the main speaker Maulina Pia Wulandari, SSos MKom PhD, as the Head of the Communication Science Study Program, Universitas Brawijaya. The purpose of this activity is to strengthen the academic foundation in order to improve accreditation in the Masters Program in Communication Science, FISIP, Universitas Riau.
This workshop is part of the efforts of the Master of Communication Studies Program of Riau University to continue to develop and improve the educational curriculum that is relevant to the needs of industry and the development of science. With the rapid changes in the era of global communication, it is important for study programs to adjust their learning materials to remain competitive and applicable in the world of work.
In her presentation, Maulina shared her experience in developing the Master of Communication Science curriculum at Brawijaya University. One of the important points discussed was how to design courses that meet the needs of practical skills in the field of communication. She emphasized the importance of a balance between theory and practice through case studies that are relevant to the work world situation.
"Brawijaya University develops courses based on ASEAN and Indonesian Perspectives to highlight the characteristics of our education, different from universities in provincial capitals or metropolitan cities," said Maulina Pia.
He also emphasized that every university needs to have uniqueness in its curriculum in order to provide added value for students.
After the workshop was completed, the team of lecturers from the Master of Communication Science Program revised and compiled the curriculum based on input provided by the speakers, by adopting several approaches that had been implemented by Brawijaya University.
This workshop is an important step in developing a curriculum that is more dynamic and responsive to developments in the communications industry, as well as a manifestation of Riau University's commitment to providing quality education for students of the Communication Science Masters Program.
